Snag-a-Shift FAQ
What is Snag-a-Shift, and how does it work?
Snag-a-Shift is a staffing marketplace connecting restaurants with young gig workers available for on-demand shifts. Restaurants can post individual shifts or temporary positions, and qualified gig workers in the area can fill those shifts quickly, providing flexibility and ease for both parties.
How much does Snag-a-Shift cost for restaurants?
Snag-a-Shift charges a simple, transparent fee: 10% on top of the worker’s hourly rate. This means you only pay for the shifts you need, with no long-term commitments or hidden fees. Our pricing is designed to be flexible and affordable, meeting the needs of restaurants of all sizes.
Why do we charge so little?
As a startup, we’re testing our model to find the best pricing balance that benefits everyone involved. We understand that the cost of labor is one of the highest expenses for restaurants nationwide, and one of our core goals is to create a truly cost-effective staffing solution. By keeping our fees low, we’re helping restaurants reduce the burdens of high turnover, training and onboarding costs, and ongoing worker expenses like taxes and workers’ compensation
As we grow and the cost of business rises, our rates will adjust, but our commitment to offering an affordable, flexible staffing solution for the restaurant industry will always be a priority.
What kind of workers can I find on Snag-a-Shift?
We connect restaurants with young, motivated gig workers, seeking their first jobs in food service. They have attained certifications (such as food handlers certifications) and completed training modules teaching basic soft skills to ensure they’re ready to work safely and professionally in any restaurant setting. These must be completed before gaining access to the job board to apply for jobs, so you can be assured that they are motivated to learn and grow and succeed in their new roles.
How quickly can restaurants fill shifts on Snag-a-Shift?
Normally, the time it takes from posting an available position to a worker working their first shift can take anywhere from several weeks to over a month or more.
Our goal at Snag-a-Shift is to reduce that time so restaurants can fill shifts in a few hours to a few days at most, allowing for flexibility during peak hours or last-minute shortages.
Our platform is designed for quick, efficient hiring so that you can avoid staffing gaps.

How does Snag-a-Shift support young job seekers?
Snag-a-Shift is the only On-Demand Staffing Platform that helps to onboard new workers into the restaurant industry. A young worker getting their first job in the restaurant industry who provides proof of having obtained a Food-Handlers Certificate will have access to the job board on the Snag-a-Shift app. They will be able to apply for entry level jobs such as dishwasher, busser, host/hostess, barista and front-counter, just to name a few.
What is a Food Handlers Certificate, and why do I need one?
A Food Handlers Certificate is an essential credential that demonstrates your knowledge of safe food handling practices, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This certification is required by many states for anyone working in the food service industry to prevent foodborne illnesses and maintain a safe dining environment.
At Snag-a-Shift, we require all workers to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate from an accredited program recognized in the state where they will be working. This ensures that you meet local regulatory requirements and are prepared to contribute effectively from your first shift.
How do workers get paid?
Workers on Snag-a-Shift are paid directly through our platform.
